LEGAL PROTECTION FOR BADGERS AND THEIR SETTS

Badgers and their setts are strictly protected under the Protection of Badgers Act 1992 and Schedule 6 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 (as amended). It is a criminal offence to:

  • Intentionally capture, kill, or injure a badger
  • Damage, destroy, or block access to a sett
  • Disturb badgers while they are occupying a sett

However, where development or land management activities are necessary, Natural England licences can permit certain actions that would otherwise be unlawful.

SPECIALIST SUPPORT FOR CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS

360 Wildlife Control bring extensive expertise to badger mitigation work on major infrastructure and construction sites across the UK. Our team operates nationwide, either directly or as trusted subcontractors for ecological consultancies and pest control firms.

When badgers are present on a development site, we work closely with planners, ecologists, and contractors to implement mitigation strategies under European Protected Species (EPS) licences. This includes the protection, management, or lawful relocation of badgers, ensuring full compliance with UK wildlife laws.

BADGER FENCING AND GATES INSTALLATION

We supply and install a range of specialist badger fencing systems designed to:

  • Exclude badgers from sensitive or active construction areas
  • Redirect their movement along safe, pre-defined corridors
  • Facilitate relocation by linking to an artificial sett, when appropriate

As part of a licensed mitigation program, we can also install or replace badger gates. These gates allow for controlled badger movement and are often used to securely close off setts after a successful relocation effort.

FENCING FOR OTHER PROTECTED WILDLIFE SPECIES

In addition to badgers, we design and install temporary and permanent fencing solutions for other protected UK species, including:

  • Amphibians
  • Reptiles
  • Voles
  • Otters

Each fencing solution is carefully tailored to the specific ecological requirements and movement behavior of the species involved, ensuring humane and effective wildlife management.
